My Story

Meet Whiskey!
Whiskey is an absolute love. He is a ~2.5 year old German Wirehaired Pointer who is up to date on his shots. As an owner surrender who has spent some time in chaotic shelter environments, he is overcoming the fear of being left by his people and will need a home that is patient, consistent, loving and attentive. He is very expressive and eager to be close to his people, especially if belly rubs and cuddles are on offer. He walks well with a halter and respectfully checks in with a nose touch to your leg every now and then. Whiskey is great with the two other male  dogs in his foster home. He is learning to kennel up and picks up new skills quickly with positive reinforcement and treats. He is calm in the house and has not shown any destructive tendencies (his foster home has a lot of items with interesting smells from around the world and he hasn’t disturbed anything). Whiskey loves hiking and playing in the water. He is goofy and enthusiastic outdoors, and it seems backcountry hiking may be a new experience (his foster family thinks he may have been confined to a backyard before). Whiskey will thrive in an active home with loving, consistent people. He shows signs of anxiety when he is left and needs to rebuild trust and be able to rely on his people to return. Whiskey needs consistent training, recall work and continued training to learn commands. His foster is working with him to reduce separation anxiety, recall and general manners. He has shown great improvement, but will need ongoing socialization and training. He’s eager to learn and please & is treat motivated. Above all, he wants to be with you and loved. He is not bothered by sounds – vacuum, hair dryer, shop vac, fireworks. Whiskey is very gentle when taking treats and has a very soft mouth in general. He has slept through the night on a  dog bed without issue and without attempts to sneak into bed (though he would clearly prefer an invite onto the bed if you were up for a bedfellow). He does not show an active prey drive or propensity to hunt.
